Butter Up in Winter

Today I’m gonna tell about Kokum Butter. I became a fan of this particular butter a few years ago when, a girlfriend, who makes handmade bath and body products, turned me onto it because of me needing something that would help my skin after having some medical issues. Well it was love at first use! I’ve now learned over the years the many, many benefits of this very special butter. It is also the reason that it is the star of my own handmade body butters and butter bars.

A little background about where Kokum comes from. Kokum butter is an oil derived from the seeds of a fruit-bearing tree called the kokum tree.

Kokum trees — formally known as Garcinia indica — are primarily cultivated in tropical regions of India. The fruit and seeds of the kokum tree are used in a variety of culinary, cosmetic, and medicinal applications.

Now for the wonderful benefits! And these are just a few, but what got me hooked!

  • Ultra-moisturizing, helps rejuvenate and soften the skin

  • Helps soothe irritated skin, stinging and burning

  • Non-comedogenic, will not clog pores, making it great for all skin

types including acne prone skin

  • Contains antioxidants that nourish the skin and help slow aging

  • Helps repair damaged or cracked skin -

  • Softens the skin and restores skin flexibility

  • Helps regenerate skin cells & reduces degeneration of skin cells

Wintertime is the best time to use body butters. They are thicker and more nourishing for your skin during colder temperatures and harsher weather. Yo Body butters and butter bars are incredibly nutrient-dense and extremely hydrating. Their main function is to form a protective barrier over the skin that lasts longer than conventional, synthetic moisturizers. They can protect your skin and hair from the hot sun, dry air, and cold winter weather. Body butters also contain high levels of antioxidants such as: * Vitamins A, C and E All these vitamins play a vital role in keeping skin soft, supple, hydrated, and can help combat the signs of aging. Butters are also rich in omega 3 oils, which help keep the skin moisturized, and can help calm inflammation. When essential oils are added and other complimentary ingredients into the mix, body butters can be commonly known to help combat a wide variety of problems, such as: * Acne and skin blemishes. * Healing from scrapes, wounds and minor burns to the skin. * Stretch marks. * Wrinkles and age spots. * Dry skin. * Eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. * Dry, weak and brittle hair. * Sunburn (makes an effective sunscreen). * Diaper rash.

So I hope after reading this you’re not only more informed about an ingredient I’m using in my manicure, pedicure, and body products, but also gives you more confidence in how much I care about what I use on my clients!
